Day 16: How we spend our free time

Portsmouth is a beautiful little isle on the South coast of England, but of course you already knew that. We’re doing all kind of different jobs over here. Some of us finish earlier than others. Taking myself as an example. I wake up at 6 am, but I usually finish around lunch time. I have almost a whole day to do whatever I want! At first I didn’t know what to do with my spare time. You’re all alone in a city you don’t know while all your friends are at work. I knew I couldn’t just sit at home waiting for the others to finish work. I had to take matters into my own hands and decided to go for a run near the beach. I jumped into my running shoes and closed the door behind me. This was the perfect opportunity to explore this new place. I just started running without knowing where I was going. This was pretty reckless of me but I knew I would end somewhere safe. After all, Portsmouth isn’t that big.

After a couple days I had seen whole Portsmouth already and I got bored again, so I decided to spend my time in an environment I felt at home. I went to a bookstore and bought lots of books. How could I not. I’m in England!

A lot of spare time was also spent with the group though. There is a lot to do in Portsmouth. There is a movie theatre, bowling alley, the Gunwharf Quays outlet, Clarence Pier (arcade games) and a lot of pubs. At some point we found an amazing pub. Brewhouse & Kitchen is a pub where you can play board games like Monopoly and Cluedo while you are enjoying a drink or some food. It’s definitely a bonus that it’s quite cheap over there. Some of us go there a lot. I like it there because it is a really calm place with a lot of character. There is a nice atmosphere. This place already holds a lot of good memories for me.

Time flies here in Portsmouth, but there is still a week left and a lot to discover. Still a lot of hours left to enjoy with the group and make memories we’ll never forget. This is an experience of a lifetime.
